Digital Privacy?
Everyday, cameras track our physical bodies in space, satellites track our locations on a map, and web services track our footprints online. Yet how aware are we of this implicit consent to collect our data? This piece attempts to make viewers aware, not only of the constant tracking, but in the sheer volume of data accumulated and the ease at which it is passed.
I. LikeLikeLove
In the first half of this installation, we set up a display called LikeLikeLove which encourages users to answer a few question to find out their relationship personality type and compability. After filling out the questionnaire, users provide their name and email address and they’re invited to step behind a curtain to retrieve their results.
II. Trace
Behind the curtain, we arranged stacks of vintage TVs in a barely lit room. Using the name and email address provided, we scraped the internet for information on each user. In most cases we were able to find addresses, education, phone numbers, known relatives, work history etc and we displayed this info across the TVs.
